AC Milan lost their first points of the season in a 3-3 draw with Roma, as they were tied on three separate occasions at Stadio San Siro on Monday night.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave Milan an early lead, but his Roma counterpart, Edin Dzeko, tied shortly after.
The pendulum swung between the two sides with Milan stepping back to the front through Alexis Saelemaekers, then Jordan Veretout leveled from the penalty spot.
It looked like Ibrahimovic had gotten all three points with a shot from point of view, but Marash Kumbulla tied for the third time in the game.
Milan have scored two or more goals in 11 consecutive games for the first time since 1959 and remain first in Serie A, two points ahead of Napoli. Roma, meanwhile, are at the level of Hellas Verona in eighth position.
Player of less than two minutes and Milan took the lead when Ibrahimovic got at the end of a brilliant pass from Rafael Leao and beat Antonio Mirante.
Roma responded well and Dzeko then leveled when Ciprian Tatarusanu ran for a corner and completely missed the ball, allowing it to land perfectly on the Bosnian’s head, who headed into empty goal.
Milan were closer for the rest of the half when Simon Kjaer headed the post from a corner, and Hakan Calhanoglu launched a free kick just wide.
Moments in the second half Leao again played a decisive role as Milan regained the advantage. The Portuguese sailed down the right side and his low cut to Saelemaekers allowed the Belgian to whip the net.
Roma could have equalized when Henrikh Mkhitaryan threw a brilliant ball to the back post, with Dzeko waiting, but he could only get over the crossbar.
Mkhitaryan had a chance that was saved by Tatarusanu, but couldn’t control the ball and Ismael Bennacer tripped Pedro and he ran to cut the ball. Referee Piero Giacomelli signaled the spot and Veretout stepped in to hit the ball past the Romanian.
The game then turned in the direction of Milan when Gianluca Mancini appeared to kick Calhanoglu into the penalty area as he went for the ball, but the penalty was awarded. Ibrahimovic stepped up and conceded.
Roma were down but not eliminated as Ibrahimovic inadvertently hit a corner from Giallorossi and Kumbulla, unmarked, ran and tied for the visiting side once more.
Mirante was Roma’s savior when he beat a Franck Kessie header off the line in the final stages with Milan agonizingly approaching from a corner. Then Alessio Romagnoli headed a centimeter-wide header in the final action of the match.
