Absa Bank Ghana has donated 50 new laptops to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The donation is in support of the university’s new initiative called ‘Project SONSOL’ to provide a laptop to all students in need.
The laptops were presented to the beneficiary students in a short presentation ceremony held in the university’s Great Hall.
Priscilla Yeboah, Citizenship Director of Absa Bank Ghana, stated at the event that the donation was in line with the bank’s Force for Good agenda to support youth through education and skills development to help them realize their possibilities.
“At Absa, our goal is to be a true Force for Good by playing a shaping role in society. One of the ways we do this is through education and skills development of young people for economic growth.
“We have pursued this agenda over the years through various programs, such as the Absa Tertiary Scholarship Program, which awarded more than 500 tertiary education students at 13 universities across the country, including KNUST, with full scholarships to cover their undergraduate programs, ”said Ms. Yeboah.
According to Ms Yeboah, there is a growing awareness of the soft skills that are critical to young people’s success in the workplace and their development in all aspects of their lives.
“That is why Absa is committed to helping improve and support young people to bridge this skills gap through the Absa ReadytoWork Program, which is designed to provide young people with the necessary skills that will help them transition from academia. to the world of work “.
She praised KNUST’s leadership for the ‘SONSOL Project’ which aims to support students with free laptops to boost their academic and research work.
In her remarks, KNUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson thanked Absa Bank for supporting students despite the economic challenges COVID-19 has brought.
Professor Akosua Dickson said the problem of struggling students is real and called for more business support.
“Corporate bodies should help guide these needy students and absorb the soft skills necessary for them to be employable in the competitive market.”
The vice chancellor assured the bank and other corporate bodies that the university is fully committed to ensuring a win-win partnership, as they build on their collective efforts together.
