The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and former Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has praised the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for the quality leadership he has exhibited in Parliament’s fight against the novel coronavirus.
A section of MP’s Twitter post reads:
“… your courage and transparency in publishing the number of infected parliamentarians and staff will go a long way toward addressing the challenge with stigma.”
Mr. Ablakwa also described the President’s decision to reduce the meetings as refreshing.
He then prayed for God’s protection for the Speaker, who happens to be the first leader of Parliament not appointed by a sitting president.
Samuel Ablakwa’s comments follow an announcement by Mr. Bagbin on Thursday, February 4, 2021, that Parliament, starting next week, will meet twice a week to prevent further spread of COVID- 19.
Bagbin added that only parliamentarians and staff needed for home businesses on those days will be allowed to enter the precincts of Parliament. MPs who have tested positive for the virus, as well as those whose results are unknown, have been instructed to absent themselves from the session until results or recovery are provided.
