Over the years, some Ghanaians have lamented the mistreatment of the late Jerry John Rawlings during his military rule.
Based on this, NDC stalwart Sylvester Mensah has asked Ghanaians who were victims during the Rawlings regime to find a place in their hearts to forgive him.
Furthermore, the family and friends of these troubled people were also advised to put the past behind them after the disappearance of the late JJ Rawlings.
Sylvester Mensah made this appeal after he signed the open book of condolences for the Republic’s longest-serving leader on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.
In an interview with GhanaWeb, he said: “At this point in his departure, we can only mourn and appeal to those who have been victims of excesses during his regime to have a space in their hearts to forgive. Times have been difficult. pressures, demands and slogans when it emerged fed the excesses that we saw at that time ”.
“It is our wish that posterity be kind to him. It had its positives and others. It is important to look on the positive side and give him the honor he deserves ”, he added.
The late Jerry John Rawlings died at Korle-Bu University Hospital on November 12, 2020, after battling a brief illness.
President Akufo-Addo has announced that the former statesman will receive a state burial.
Meanwhile, the date of the funeral, according to the family, would be announced in due course.
