The International Football Federation (FIFA) Club World Cup 2020 will take place in Qatar from February 1 to 11 next year.

It would be the second time that Qatar has hosted the continental world club champions after successfully hosting the 2019 version of the tournament, which was won by Liverpool FC.

The next FIFA Club World Cup was scheduled to take place in December 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of COVID-19 cases remains low in Qatar and local fans are expected to be able to attend the February tournament. Ticket sales details will be announced in due course.

Two teams have qualified for the tournament to date: host nation representative Al Duhail, reigning Qatar Stars League champion, and UEFA Champions League champion Bayern Munich. The remaining five entrants will be confirmed over the next three months when the qualifying tournaments conclude.

Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Qatar Football Association, said: “We are very excited to host the FIFA Club World Cup for the second time. Our mission is to build on the successful 2019 tournament, which attracted thousands of fans from around the world. “

Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Delivery and Legacy Committee, said: “Hosting the FIFA Club World Cup for the second time represents another vital learning opportunity for our country as we move closer and closer to the venue of the FIFA World Cup. We will work closely with our stakeholders to provide an exceptional experience for fans, players and officials, as we fine-tune our plans for 2022. ”

Qatar is currently hosting 44 games in the East Zone of the AFC Champions League amid strict health and safety regulations due to COVID-19. The country also hosted 39 West Zone games in September and October, with regular testing and bubble-to-bubble protocols that helped minimize the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, a limited number of fans are allowed to attend national matches in the country, but they must follow social distancing rules.

Nasser Al Khater, Executive Director of the Local Organizing Committee for the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020, said: “Our goal is to host matches during the FIFA Club World Cup with as many fans as possible and build on the success of 2019 to offer an even better experience for everyone involved. We will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and ensure that our preparations prioritize the health and safety of all those involved in the tournament. “
