The secretary general of the Democratic National Congress (NDC) says that the greatest respect the party can offer its founder and former president Jerry John Rawlings is to win the 2020 election.

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, that is the only way the party can live the values that the statesman defended.

He made this comment during the vigil organized by the NDC to mourn the death of the former head of state on Sunday, November 15.

For Nketia, the good principles defended by the late president cannot be implemented as an opposition party; in fact, it is imperative that the NDC win the next election to continue the legacy that Rawlings left behind.

“If you are in the opposition, you may have the best idea, but you cannot implement it. You can only recite them, ”he said.

He urged members and supporters not to feel discouraged, but to channel their energies to change the fortunes of the party in the upcoming elections.

“Be encouraged by the disappearance of our founder to win this election and rescue this nation, Ghana, which was dear to him from the same evils that he has fought, against which he has fought all his life,” he warned.

Also speaking at the event, the President of the Democratic National Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, also reiterated the call for the NDC to win the upcoming elections to honor the memory of the late former president.

He called on Ghanaians to join the NDC in what he described as a rescue mission.

The founder of the NDC party passed away on Thursday, November 12, at Korle Bu University Hospital after a brief illness.
