COCOBOD has refuted claims that it obtained an exclusive contract to acquire the insecticide Transform Akate from Agri-Plus Horizon Farm Limited on the grounds of nepotism or trade based on money laundering.

According to COCOBOD, the exclusive supply was made through the appropriate means.

The company says it sought approval from the Public Procurement Authority to acquire the product, among others, through the unique sourcing method for COCOBOD operations.

” We wish to state that the decision to source proprietary insecticides and other chemicals for COCOBOD operations is based on the need for COCOBOD for specific purposes. COCOBOD only purchases insecticides or chemicals that have been tested and certified by the Ghana Cocoa Research Institute (CRIG) … A company that holds the CRIG certificate for a particular product has ownership rights to the product and, in Consequently, COCOBOD can purchase the product from only that company.

” In the case of the Transform Akate Insecticide mentioned in the document, Agriplus Horizon Farms Limited is the company that holds the CRIG certificate for the product … We wish to categorically state that the suspicion that COCOBOD’s decision to be the sole source of the contract to Agri-Plus may have been founded for reasons of nepotism is completely unfounded and false ”, a COCOBOD statement is read.
