Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has won a total of three coveted awards at the 10th Ghana Information and Telecommunications Technology Awards (GITTA) held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Friday, November 13, 2020 .
At the award ceremony, the Bank was chosen as the Bank with the most improvements in the best use of technology. The other two awards were presented to UMB Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Kwabla Amenumey, who was chosen as the Ag and ICT-Driven Executive Director of the Year. UMB Chief IT Officer Sylvester Yao Apedoe received the CIO award from the year.
The awards are a testament to the Bank’s continued dedication to promoting its valued customer experience through the use of new and efficient banking technologies that are safe, convenient and secure.
The Bank was awarded, in previous years, with the Best Bank Award for Cyber Security Risk Management at the GITTA, which brings to four the number of times it received the coveted award for its investment in ICT that seeks to secure its environment cyber and its customers.
Speaking to Joy Business, UMB Executive Director Benjamin Amenumey emphasized, “In 2019 we decided to be seen as a digital bank in the next three to five years, so we made conscious efforts to improve our ICT infrastructure, so we committed ourselves by letting all our staff know that this is where we are going, so we obtained the ISO certification, the PCI DSS certification, now we have strongly strengthened our bank ”.
UMB’s CEO also hinted at plans to bring digital solutions to the bank’s SME clients.
“By 2021-2022, we will also allow our SME clients to feel at home so that they do not have the need to go to the bank, but can do many activities on their own.” emphasized.
The GITTA awards program, the theme of which was “Celebrating a Decade of ICT Excellence”, recognized the efforts of individuals and institutions that play a leading role in the telecommunications and information technology industry in general.
The event attracted industry giants and key stakeholders from the Ministry of Communications, the National Communications Authority, the Bank of Ghana and many others.
