Stop ‘Unnecessary’ Indictment – ET Mensah to NDC for Rawlings Burial

Former Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament (MP) Enoch Teye Mensah says the Democratic National Congress (NDC) accusation that the government has hijacked the burial preparations for the late Jerry John Rawlings is unfounded.

Speaking on Adom FM on Monday, Mensah said that the fact that Rawlings is the first president of the Fourth Republic deserves a proper burial.

“The confusion that the NDC is trying to cause is unnecessary. When Nkrumah died, the People’s Convention Party did not bury him, he was a statesman and the state took over.

“For me, I think the NDC argument is not a principle. Let’s call things by their names and allow the government to bury the former president, ”he added.

His claim follows comments by NDC Secretary General John Aseidu Nketia in an interview that the incumbent government is trying to hijack the funeral of the political party’s founding father.

“Everything about this funeral, so far, represents an attempt by an opponent to hijack the funeral of the founding father of our political party, and we do not believe that the funeral of the founder of our party should be organized somewhere, and we are invited,” he said.

But Mensah insists that President Akufo-Addo has no intention of hijacking the late former president’s burial.

“I think Akufo-Addo has good intentions. He said that Rawlings is the founder of the Fourth Republic and the first president, so the state would have to give him a proper burial. “
