Ghana’s Ambassador to Egypt, HE Dr. Winfred Nii Okai Hammond, visited the Black Stars at the Corinthia Hotel in Khartoum on Monday, November 16.
HE Okai, who has an oversight role over Sudan, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon, was accompanied by some members of the Embassy staff during the visit.
Ambassador Okai congratulated the team for having three unbeaten matches and assured the players of the government’s support throughout the tie.
“I’m very impressed with how far you’ve come because I was reviewing the records and so far you haven’t conceded a goal. Ambassador Okai said
“You have played three games and you have not conceded a jail and I think that should inspire you that this is probably the team that leads us on 5th Nations Cup.
“I think we should set ourselves higher targets because already at this level, we are almost there, but we want to finish hard.
“I am on behalf of the President, who is a football enthusiast who used to play football and wants to see us go through this phase undefeated and I believe that tomorrow will be no exception.
“I know you will make it tomorrow. All the antics we saw yesterday, trying to hold on to get tired is part of the strategy. I think you know what African football is like, but we have gone beyond that stage.
“We’re way beyond that and I don’t think anyone can stop us, at the rate you’re going. I know tomorrow’s performance will be better than the one that happened in Cape Coast.
“I saw a bit of your training; And I thought that tomorrow we would make it. “So on behalf of the President and the people of Ghana, we wish them the best. We are here to give you all the support we can, one way or another, which is why we came here and we know that tomorrow at this time we will rejoice and look forward.
“Even when we qualify tomorrow, which I know we will, because winning tomorrow qualifies us and after that we will still put some fear in the other teams making sure that we are winning all the time, and I know you are capable of doing it. “He added
Ghana has a crucial match against Sudan on Wednesday at the Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.
The Stars have yet to concede a goal in three playoff outings and Wednesday’s victory will seal qualification for Ghana.
The Black Stars defeated Sudan 2-0 in their previous match played at Cape Coast on Thursday with captain Andre Ayew scoring both goals in that match.
