Sergio Busquets is expected to be out of action for at least three weeks after sustaining a knee injury in international service with Spain.
The midfielder left early during Saturday’s 1-1 Nations League draw with Switzerland and will now undergo an MRI on Monday.
According to Catalunya Radio, Busquets will miss “a minimum of three weeks” after suffering a slight knee ligament sprain.
If the estimate is correct, Busquets will miss the La Liga matches against Atlético, Osasuna and Cádiz and also the rest of the Barça Champions League group matches.
Barcelona have a packed match list in December and Busquets could be back in time for a series of La Liga games in December after the group stage of the Champions League has concluded.
The Catalan giants face Levante, Valencia, Real Valladolid and Eibar before saying goodbye to 2020.
Busquets’ injury appears to give Miralem Pjanic a chance to establish himself in the starting lineup alongside Frenkie de Jong, although Carles Alena can also look forward to more playing time.
