In his fascinating UTD Podcast on Monday, the Manchester United creative midfielder cites a pair of players who operated in different areas of the team, Brazilian legend Ronaldinho and Bruno’s compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, as key influences in his formative years. Hearing him talk passionately about both icons, you start to think about the attributes he could have borrowed from them and introduced them into his own game.

“When I grew up, the first player I really liked seeing was Ronaldinho.”

reveals Fernandes, during the 70 minute episode.

“He had this kind of magic that no one else had.

“He went everywhere with a smile on his face. He would accept a ticket and keep smiling. He would give a nutmeg and have a smile on his face. If he won, he had a smile on his face. Even if he lost, he had a smile on his face. He was the type of player you enjoy watching. That was very important to me when I was little because when you are a child you have to enjoy football. And when you looked at Ronaldinho, you understood what it means to enjoy football ”.
