Volta Region Chiefs Praise Former President Rawlings

The Supreme Head of the Traditional Area of ​​Alavanyo, Togbega Atakora Tsedze VII, has recognized former President Jerry John Rawlings the sustainable democracy of the country.

“The Fourth Republic has lasted almost 28 years. Other republics did not last as long without interruptions, including the attempted coup, ”he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

He said that the late Mr. Rawlings had made the public understand that everyone could be punished for their misconduct and that no one was untouchable.

The former president said with conviction that the Fourth Republic would last a long time believing that “we have realized that coups do not solve problems,” added Togbega Tsedze.

The Supreme Chief said that Mr. Rawlings’ volunteer spirit was on the decline, described it as a worrying trend and expressed hope that his disappearance would rekindle the spirit.

“If you check our communities, all the canals are clogged. Nobody is willing to get rid of them. Citizens are not willing because they did not see their leaders do the same ”.

Togbega Tsedze urged young people to endeavor to read books about Mr. Jerry John Rawlings, study his activities and works to get the positive sides of the late Head of State.

He said the ideals of probity, responsibility, transparency, rule of law and others would be practical to honor him in death.

The Supreme Queen of the Alavanyo Traditional Area, Mamaga Ametor Hoebuadzu II, described the former president as principled and disciplined, who spoke the truth, regardless of person and subject.

She said the late statesman had fought a good fight and deserved the praise of the citizens, adding that “let us praise the people for their good works, while they are alive.”

Mamaga Ametor expressed her condolences to the late leader’s family and his Party urging them to live up to Rawlings’ examples to move the country forward.

Gbi-Abansi Division Chief Togbe Adzimah V said “Former President Rawlings has been the greatest leader or president of our generation.”

He said that his peaceful handover of power after his tenure was one of the greatest acts of a statesman.
