Five people were killed after a Toyota Hilux pickup and a Mercedes Sprinter bus collided on the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020.
Seventeen critically ill people are being admitted to Obuasi and Anglogold Ashanti Government Hospitals.
The bodies of the deceased have also been deposited in the hospital for autopsy and burial.
According to available information, the van with registration number GC 9888-20 was driving from Obuasi to Dunkwa with four people on board at around 6:40 pm on Saturday.
The Ashanti regional commander of the Police Department of Motor, Traffic and Transport (MTTD), Superintendent Emmanuel Adu Boahen, told reporters that upon reaching a section of the road on the outskirts of Adinkra, he allegedly tried to overtake another vehicle.
The bus had about 18 passengers on board.
“This is an avoidable accident. This unpleasant scenario could have been avoided if the driver of the truck had had a little patience, ”said Adu Boahen.
He also appealed to the general public to help him identify some of the victims who are currently admitted to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the two vehicles involved in the accident have been removed from the road to allow free movement of traffic.
