Perez Chapel’s founding bishop and president, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, has urged both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to commit to non-violence in the run-up to the 2020 general election.
She spoke during a visit by Democratic National Congress (NDC) running mate Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to church on Sunday, November 15, where she implored political parties to guarantee total abstinence from violence.
“Let me take this opportunity once again to warn our politicians, especially the two main political parties, the PNP and the NDC, that this year’s elections must not unleash violence on us.
“Political parties must not unleash thugs and self-defense groups on ordinary people. Let’s experience a high level of civility on December 7 and beyond, ”he said.
Consequently, he encouraged the Electoral Commission (EC) and the security agencies to be impartial in the performance of their respective functions.
“I hope and pray that the security agencies and the Election Commission do a very professional and impartial job. They should not favor or support any particular political party over the other ”.
Bishop Agynasare also stated that Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s conduct in her election campaign has so far been exemplary and worthy of emulation.
However, he noted that he will not hesitate to speak out against any misconduct that may manifest.
“Let me tell you that as a man of God, just as I congratulated you for what I see you do well, the day that you or your political party, whether in the opposition or in the government, did not do the right thing, I hope that I too speak up and don’t keep quiet, ”he said.
The religious leader also called for all other politicians and their supporters to prioritize peace in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
“Make the peace of this nation your highest priority, as mentioned in Hebrews 12:14:” Pursue peace with all, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord, “
