Correspondence of the Volta Region:

The family of former President Jerry John Rawlings in the Volta region is devastated and has yet to come to terms with the disappearance of the late statesman following his sudden death.

Mr. Rawlings, whose mother was a sheep from the Volta region, established good land in the region and visited the area occasionally.
The most recent appearance he made was for the funeral of his late mother, Victoria Agbotui, who passed away on September 24, 2020.

According to family members, he was scheduled to visit the family home again after 40 days to complete his mother’s last funeral rites, but was sadly taken by the frozen hands of death.

Speaking to GhanaWeb in an interview, the head of the family, Mr. Augustine Kwablavi Agbodzakli, who is a direct cousin of the late former president, revealed that the news of JJ Rawlings’ death was shocking, especially since it was just a few weeks ago that they were with the.

“I saw him just two weeks ago. After his mother’s funeral, he came back again and we all sat down as a family to talk with him and we also told him what we had. He was also scheduled to be among us for the forty (40) days of his deceased mother’s last funeral rituals, ”said Agbodzakli.
The whole family has been taken aback by the tragic event, he added.

“What happened now has confused us all because we did not expect it. We don’t even understand it. The last forty days of his mother’s funeral rites are not even due before this happened. It is a sad day for the whole family ”.

The house found in Dzelukope in the Keta Township of the Volta region serves as a family home for the Agbotuis, Tamekloes and Nyahos.
At the time when GhanaWeb Volta regional correspondent Peter Atsu Ahianyo visited the house on Friday, four people, including the head of the Agbotui family, were sitting in the beautifully decorated house singing a traditional funeral song with about five mourning women at the entrance of the house.

The atmosphere and the entire Dzelukope township was silent.
