The South Dayi District Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) was reactivated before the December elections to resolve conflicts and improve the peace prevailing in the area before, during and after the elections.
Sena Amedenu Bosson, South Dayi District Director, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) said the committee’s reactivation was necessary to allow them to develop a comprehensive action plan to ensure resolution of issues that arise during the elections.
He said the Committee would provide a platform for various stakeholders and political parties to get involved in maintaining peace and tranquility in the District, adding that it would also educate and monitor the activities of political parties and their supporters to ensure that their activities will not destabilize the country.
Bosson said the committee will establish mechanisms to address the defacing of posters, the use of provocative and abusive language by political parties, vote buying and abuse of ownership.
He called on political actors to ensure that their activities do not plunge the country into chaos, but rather help maintain the peace of the country, as the country can only develop in an atmosphere of peace.
Kpeve District Commander Harry Selormey, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), advised people who defaced posters of political opponents to desist from the act, as it was a criminal act punishable by law.
He said his team, in collaboration with other sister security agencies, would continue to provide maximum security to the people before, during and after elections, urging citizens to strive to comply with the rules and regulations governing elections.
Mrs. Irene Balley, secretary of the polling station of the New Patriotic Party (PNP), which represented the party, said that the PNP was committed to peace in the country and would not do anything to destabilize the country, and asked party members that they work hard to retain the party in power.
Newton Agyemang, a member of the Democratic National Congress (NDC), said the party valued the country’s peace and was committed to maintaining it at all times, urging voters to vote en masse for the party to return to power to improve the country’s socioeconomic development. .
Mr. Kofi Nani Explo, co-chair of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), said that peace is essential in any democratic government, adding that the party appreciates peace and therefore will not participate in any act that has the tendency to put her in danger.
The Rev. Nelson Nyavor Bonsi, Chairman of the IPDC, said that the Committee was determined to put in place all the necessary mechanisms for it to carry out its functions effectively.
