Manchester United have no plans to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo, despite recent reports.
The transfer gossip columns have been filled this week with the suggestion that United may look to sign the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the upcoming summer transfer period amid uncertainty about his future at Juventus.
A report in Argentina suggested that Ronaldo was “tempted” by the prospect of returning to Manchester, while one outlet in Portugal even suggested that United had made a “formal offer” to bring the superstar back to Old Trafford.
However, MEN Sport understands that this is not the case with United sources laughing at the suggestion that any deal is being discussed.
Ronaldo’s contract doesn’t expire until 2022, so United would not only have to match his high salary demands, but also pay a transfer fee to secure his exit.
It makes the prospect of a deal highly unlikely considering United did not sign Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window over similar concerns about the overall cost of such a deal in the financial climate of the coronavirus.
