Belgium had hoped Eden Hazard could be part of their squad for Sunday’s game against England, but the Real Madrid forward’s latest COVID-19 test on Saturday came back positive.
That news came directly from the Red Devils coach Roberto Martinez, who confirmed that Hazard would not participate in the expected clash with the Tres Leones.
“We are working with the Madrid medical team and [Hazard] not yet available for travel. He is still [COVID] positive. He will not be available for Sunday, “Martinez said in his pregame press conference.
After a year of injuries, Hazard had been called up by Belgium in September, but was unable to play any of the games due to lack of physical form. His last appearance with his country was in October 2019.
Belgium will play Denmark on Wednesday after meeting England on Sunday, both as part of Group B of the UEFA Nations League.
Martinez and his team are still hopeful that Hazard can travel for the game against Denmark, although it seems like a tough question.
