Some five people have suffered injuries of varying degrees after a fire explosion in Anaafo, a fishing community on Cape Coast, devastated their homes.

At 10:40 am, when the GNA arrived on the scene, teams from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ambulance Service were working hard to put out the fire and control the situation.

The fire swept through a poor neighborhood and destroyed properties that were in hundreds of cedis.

Apart from that, the stores that were near the area were also affected by the fire.

The GNA also saw some people crying while others eagerly searched for their relatives.

A resident of Kwamena Esuon told the GNA that the cause of the fire was unknown, adding that he, along with his colleagues, heard a loud explosion as they searched for premixed fuel for their fishing expedition.

“Many of us jumped into the sea just to save our lives, it just exploded and we started running for our lives.”

He said that some of his colleagues were seriously injured and are fighting for their lives.

Firefighters did not immediately comment on the incident.
