Troy Deeney has said Drive on talkSPORT (11/11/20 at 4:45 pm) that Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo should sign for a club like Wolves.
It has been speculated that he links Ronaldo to a return to England and especially Manchester United [Mirror]But Deeney believes that with the Wolves’ ‘connection to Portugal’ they could sign him.
Gareth Bale recently left Real Madrid to return to Tottenham, and fans have memories of how great he was when he left for Spain and think he could replicate that form now that he is back.
Deeney warned fans that if Ronaldo returns to England, they shouldn’t expect too much from the Juventus player, as with Bale, as he made this sensational claim.
“I think I was more looking at a club like Wolves with the Portugal connection,” Deeney said. “That would probably work.
“Whoever is doing it is getting some incredible talent. This season I think that six out of four have already achieved in Serie A. You are not going to get the same Ronaldo that you had at Manchester United. I think that will always be the comparison.
“You look at Gareth Bale, for example, he’s back at Tottenham. You are already comparing him with the one who left to go to Madrid. You’re still going to get goals from Ronaldo and you’re still going to get goals from Bale, that’s what everyone will think, is he at that level?
“If he is available, I would be very surprised if there was not a club in the top ten trying to sign him in the Premier League.
On him being too good for the Wolves: “I like the Wolves. Is the stranger [compared to the clubs Ronaldo has played at]. If he went to America and went to LA Galaxy. We’d say ‘oh that’s kind of weird’.
“I think the Wolves are creating something there with the players that they have where they will push for the top six in the next few years. Then of course, as I said, the connection with Portugal and there are so many positives. If you want to go to the next level, that’s the player to go to. “
Ronaldo’s return to the Premier League would be a story in itself, but if he appears at Wolves it would be the biggest shock of the century.
During his career, Ronaldo has played for the biggest clubs in his career and a move to Wolves would be a big deal given his stature.
Super agent Jorge Mendes would have to play a huge role for that to happen, but it’s fair to say such a move would be a dream and a dream only for those in Molineux.
