President Akufo-Addo has tasked the leaders and members of the Greater Accra Association of Assemblymen (GAAAM) to join forces with his administration ahead of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections to ensure that the New Patriotic Party (PNP) , keep the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of the main opposition out of power.
The president gave up the position when he addressed the association at Jubilee House when they paid him a courtesy call on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.
“We all have to join forces and fight to make sure we don’t allow the NDC to come back to power. That should never happen in the next election. We will need to join forces to prevent them from coming back to power.” Akufo-Addo said.
“The environment in the country is good for us. Ghanaians are very happy with the work of my administration so far and the important thing now is to go from house to house and bring home our enviable record from now until the December 7 elections. We cannot afford complacency, because elections are not won until the last vote has been counted and we have to make sure that everyone who has registered goes out to vote in this year’s elections, “added President Akufo-Addo. .
Assembly Members Payment
On the issue of assembly member pay, which has become a controversial issue since former President John DDramani Mahama and the 2020 NDC presidential candidate promised to pay all assembly members a monthly salary, association spokesman Stephen Kwasi Acquah, in In Your Address, noted that any decision to pay them a monthly salary is good news.
However, he indicated that Mr. Mahama, who today promises to pay assembly members’ salaries, did the same in his party’s 2012 manifesto, but did not fulfill the promise when he gained power.
To this end, Mr. Acquah noted that his association views the 2020 manifesto promise of the NDC and its presidential nominee to pay Assembly Members’ monthly salaries as an unsubstantiated promise.
“We only trust one thing and that is that you, Mr. President, taking the time to meet with us today, shows that you are the president who will improve our lives starting in 2021 in your second term,” he said.
