The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that all accredited players and officials of the major league teams have undergone mandatory Covid-19 testing prior to the new season.
The Ghana Premier League is scheduled to start on Saturday, November 14, 2020, with a match between former champions Accra Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars in Dormaa.
As part of the preparations for the start of the league competition, the GFA announced last month that it was beginning the testing process of the players, coaching staff and officials of the 18 Premier League clubs.
According to the GFA, the player and official tests are a collaboration with the Association and the government Covid-19 task force to ensure that soccer is played in the safest way possible.
Speaking on Luv Fm’s “Monday Night Sports” show, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum announced that all players and officials have been screened.
“The government has helped us and we have tested the 30 registered players and 15 officials from the 18 clubs in the premier league. We are very grateful to the government for this support and this process will not be something isolated, it will also continue on the march, “he said.
Henry Asante Twum also revealed that the government has completed the fumigation of all stadiums available for use during the 2020/21 league competition.
“By courtesy of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority we have fumigated all the centers of the league and it is something that will be done continuously,” he said.
Ghana’s first league is on the mend this weekend after an eight-month hiatus due to a ban on sporting activities amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
