The secretary-general of the Democratic National Congress has asked the New Patriotic Party to worry about choosing a standard-bearer for the December polls and to stop worrying about when his party will name a candidate to be partner John Mahama.

With only about seven months to go until the 2020 elections, concerns have been raised about who is likely to partner with the former president for his return attempt, with some critics claiming that the NDC does not have qualified individuals for the job.

Addressing the problem on TV3’s news analysis program “Key points on Saturday, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said his party is not late in announcing a running mate, stating that there is no standard practice of when to announce a running mate. formula or a campaign team.

He said there is no pressure on the NDC to announce a running mate, explaining that “each side has a way of handling its affairs.”

The man popularly known as General Mosquito wondered why the nuclear power plant is “concerned that we haven’t announced a running mate when they don’t have a standard-bearer.”

“They don’t have a flag bearer, they don’t have a running mate. They have around 160 parliamentary seats to fill and yet they divert people’s attention to our running mate,” he said.

“I’m not sure our people are concerned,” he added, stating that “the [NDC] constitutional timeline is not close “

In fact, the PNP has yet to endorse President Akufo-Addo as the party’s standard-bearer, as he was the only candidate chosen and submitted a nomination for the party’s presidential primary that was originally set for April 15, but was suspended due to to covid-19.

For the NDC Secretary General, the push for Mahama to name his running mate “is just a creation of the government and the nuclear power plant to divert [attention] of burning problems. “

According to him, the NDC is better placed in terms of preparedness than the PNP, which has a standard-bearer to select, as well as some 160 parliamentary candidates, saying “at least we are almost done with our parliamentary candidates.”

“If they insist that they have a standard bearer, then whatever they are scheduled to do by selecting a standard bearer is a sham. They should not be misleading their party members if they think they have a standard-bearer, “he said.

Meanwhile, Asiedu Nketia has said that career partners are a secondary problem because those people only associate with the presidential candidate and do not carry the weight of the candidate they associate with.

“The presidential elections in Ghana are called presidential because you focus on choosing a president, so the presidential candidate is someone who will simply support the president. I don’t think the weight of a running mate should be more important than the presidential candidate, “he argued.

According to Mr. Asiedu Nketia, that explains why the photos of the race partners are not in the ballot box, and that they are the presidential candidates that people vote for, not their running mate.

“The person you are going to vote for is more important than the one who associates you … There is a reason why you do not have the image of the standard-bearer and the image of the running mate in the ballot box, because you are voting to elect a president “
