In the next 28 days, Ghanaians would go to the polls to elect representatives for their various constituencies and also to elect a president to lead the nation.
In view of this, the Seventh Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana closed and suspended the session to allow members to focus on their re-election campaigns and also their exit strategies.
The minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, stressed the need for peace to reign earlier, as the country enters the December 7 elections.
The Seventh Parliament has been one of the successful Parliaments in the history of the Fourth Republic, with a record number of laws passed throughout its life.
The Speaker of the House, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye, also expected a peaceful transition to the next parliament.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the House is making adequate preparations for the dissolution of the 7th Parliament and I urge everyone to work together to achieve a smooth transition.
As the 2020 general election approaches, I wish you all the best and I pray that our nation abides by the law as it has always been and that each official will play their part in accordance with the requirements of our country’s law. Ladies and gentlemen, I am sure that together we can have an orderly, fair and credible election, ”he said.
In his closing remarks, Majority Leader Kwesi Ameyaw-Cheremah called for increased public awareness of the COVID-19 pandemic as the country heads to the polls.
In other news, Ghanaian actress-turned-politician Ebi Bright reportedly lost two cars in a fire at her home in the Tema community.
The cars of Bright, who is the Democratic National Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Central Issue in the upcoming 2020 election, are said to have burned on Sunday, November 8, 2020.
According to the report YEN.com.gh Spotted on MyNewsGH.com, the cars, a Mercedes Benz GL 450 and a Hyundai i30, were practically reduced to ashes.
