The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, is confident that the December 2020 general election will be orderly, fair and credible.

The spokesperson made the comment in his closing remarks when the 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana was closed for the weekend.

The president also expressed his hope for a peaceful transition after the elections, saying that “the chamber is making adequate preparations for the dissolution of the 7th parliament and I urged everyone to work together to achieve a smooth transition. As the 2020 general election approaches, I wish you all the best and I pray that our nation abides by the law as it has always been and that each official will play their part in accordance with the requirements of our country’s law. Ladies and gentlemen, I am sure that together we can have an orderly, fair and credible election ”.

For his part, Majority Leader Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh called for greater public awareness of the COVI-19 pandemic, while Majority Leader Haruna Iddrisu reiterated the need for peace as the nation addresses the December elections.

The VII Parliament of the IV Republic was inaugurated at midnight on January 6, 2017 and has worked to be one of the most successful in the history of the country, having approved a record number of laws.
