Ghana is currently working on processes for the evacuation of its stranded citizens in parts of the United States following the closure of the country’s borders.
A statement issued by the Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations and the Consulate General in New York and dated May 8 indicates that the mission is compiling a list of all affected Ghanaians in the “tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut wanting to be evacuated. “
This, according to the statement, follows a directive from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
Therefore, interested persons should provide details of their;
1. Name and personal data of the passport
2. US Visa Page USA And date of entry
3. State of the city of residence in the United States
The statement also states that all communication regarding those who wish to be evacuated must be emailed to the Mission by Tuesday, May 12, 2020.
The move follows several calls and agitations by some Ghanaians for the evacuation of citizens trapped in the United States after the country’s borders closed.
Ghana closed its borders to all Ghanaians and foreigners returning with Ghanaian permits on March 22 and subsequently travel restrictions on all foreign entries as part of the increased efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Although Ghana has not yet evacuated any of its citizens abroad, countries like the US The USA, Nigeria and the United Kingdom have been able to evacuate citizens from various countries by air transport.
