Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah has indefinitely retired from the Black Stars.
The player announced on his Twitter account this Sunday afternoon that “I have decided to take a break from the national team until further notice.”
The reason for Mensah’s retirement was not stated, however his announcement comes days after the Beşiktaş midfielder was excluded from CK Akonnor’s 23-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Mensah was part of the squad called up for friendlies against Mali and Qatar last month.
He participated in the game against Mali and was an unused substitute against Qatar. The 26-year-old was one of several team members who contracted Covid-19, but after days of isolation, Mensah has recovered.
The former Atlético de Madrid midfielder made four appearances for the Black Stars, scoring one goal.
