Why Mason Greenwood wasn’t on the Manchester United vs Everton team

Mason Greenwood was too ill to feature with Manchester United in their Premier League win over Everton.

The MEN reported that Greenwood was not included in the provisional squad Friday night and that the 19-year-old did not travel to Goodison Park.

Luke Shaw was forced to retire in the second half of United’s 3-1 win with a hamstring injury and Marcus Rashford was also injured at the end. Victor Lindelof was a starter, but lately he has had back problems and did not play against Istanbul Basaksehir.

“Mason was not feeling well last night,” Solskjaer told BT Sport. “He reported that he was not well and could not travel. Luke is his hamstring, it could be long. Marcus is struggling, it looked like a shoulder injury.”

During his post-game press conference, Solskjaer added: “He doesn’t look very good. Victor is hopefully not so bad, but so is his back. Any injury when it is serious is not worth the points, but the guys weren’t going. To give anyone a chance to take three points off us, so determined.

“They (Shaw and Rashford) will be evaluated and hopefully it won’t be too serious, but they looked bad towards the end.”

Shaw was replaced by center-back Axel Tuanzebe, as Solskjaer omitted left backs Alex Telles and Brandon Williams from the team of the day even though they were both at Goodison.

Telles, 27, has just recovered from the coronavirus and it is unclear if he will travel to South America for Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay this month.

The 20-year-old Williams has only played for United in the Carabao Cup this season and has not appeared since the fourth-round win in Brighton on September 30.

United do not play again until West Brom’s visit on November 21.
