Ghanaian forward Samuel Owusu has urged Ghanaians to be patient with Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor as he builds a strong team.
Akonnor was appointed in January 2020 as a replacement for James Akwasi Appiah.
He is tasked with building a team that can conquer Africa and break Ghana’s 30-plus trophy drought.
However, the former captain of the national team has not had the start he expected as he lost his first game in charge; a 3-0 loss to Mali.
The team responded with a strong victory over Qatar, although skeptics remain unconvinced of their capabilities.
Samuel Owusu, who scored in the victory over Qatar last month, believes that the project Akonnor is building is very promising and should have time to work.
“CK is a very good coach so I just want to beg the Ghanaians to give him time to get the team in good shape,” Owusu told Ghanafa.org
“I can assure the Ghanaians that with CK we can bring AFCON to Ghana because he is a very good coach.
One thing about Akonnor, Owusu commends is his faith and confidence in youth. The young man, a great beneficiary of such an initiative, believes that this makes Akonnor a good coach.
“Even giving new players to show their quality, I think it’s good because I like coaches who give younger players the opportunity to play and express themselves,” concluded Owusu.
