Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has struck a defiant note by insisting that he will remain mentally strong and will not collapse “like a house of cards” following Manchester United’s losses to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir.
These are his comments ahead of Saturday’s trip to Liverpool to face Everton.
“You have to be mentally strong, there are demands on any Manchester United player, coach and manager,” he said.
“And there is also an expectation – we are in the biggest and best club in the world and you don’t expect to have anything but criticism then; that’s how you deal with that setback and from what I’ve seen from the guys, they’ve been very focused. “
The 47-year-old was asked if Saturday’s lunchtime trip to Everton was decisive regarding his job. “I have always had a very good, open, honest and positive dialogue with the club,” he said. “They have shown strong leadership – I have had a good dialogue continuously – since I arrived and I don’t expect the wind to change. [for his job be in jeopardy].
“I have grown up here. I became a man in Manchester United [when a player from 1996-2007] and I have learned to face the good and bad times. Every football game becomes history quickly and we have to go to Goodison Park with a positive attitude. “
United have lost three Premier League games, all at home, and are 15th with seven points from six games.
