Paul Adom-Otchere, Good Evening Ghana (GEG) host on Metro Television, has agreed with former President John Dramani Mahama that Martin Amidu, the special counsel, is “a coward.”
On his GEG show Thursday, Adom-Otchere stated: “Honorable Martin Amidu, your mandate is to continue the investigation, to invite anyone. You can’t come and say in an official report that I found out that President Mahama is the government official one, but I don’t want to prosecute him because he is running for the NDC flagger position. What does that mean?”
Martin Amidu, presenting his “Corruption Risk Assessment” on the Agyapa Fraudulent Royalty Deal, which will now be presented again to Parliament, appointed John Mahama as “Government Official 1” in the Airbus scandal.
“The only reason the former president [Mahama] he has not been invited for questioning (despite all the threats from some of his supporters and lawyers) is the fact that he got insurance as a presidential candidate for the other major political party in Ghana, “Amidu wrote to President Akufo-Addo . in October.
Amidu argued that “prudence dictated that the interrogation be kept on hold during this election season.”
Many experts have said that the matter was not related to Agyapa and should not have been in the “Corruption Risk Assessment” on Agyapa’s royalties.
Former President John Mahama has since described Amidu’s alleged prudence as “stupid.”
Mahama said on Wednesday November 4, at a party in Legon: “Amidu goes and presents Agyapa’s research and I thought he was quite a man. They say, investigate Agyapa, so file a report on Agyapa … … But since he is a coward and they knew Agyapa was going to be discussed today, he put a paragraph on Airbus to level the discussion. What stupidity is this?
Paul Adom-Otchere agrees with Mahama.
On Thursday’s GEG program, Paul Adom-Otchere explained that when the Special Prosecutor is conducting an investigation into a scandal, he cannot claim that it is the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), which is a body of investigation or the Office of Economic and Organized Crimes (EOCO): the SP should be “looking for an indictable crime”.
Adom-Otchere pointed out that when Martin Amidu comes to tell Ghanaians that he has learned that former President Mahama is “government official one”, but because he is the leader of a political party and is going to an important election, Mahama cannot be processed “We don’t understand.”
Adom-Otchere explained, “… if you’ve found something, you have to process. What is Martin Amidu talking about? He does not have his own mandate … … How then do you say that I have conducted an investigation, I have discovered that President Mahama is Government Official One, but because he is a leader? from a political party, I will not prosecute. Martin Amidu shouldn’t be able to say that. In fact, by saying it, he is risking the continuation of his own position ”.
