Dimitar Berbatov insists that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is only part of the problem at Manchester United and that the “attitude” of the players is a matter of great concern.
The pressure is mounting on Solskjaer after United suffered back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir in the last week.
United have reportedly contacted Mauricio Pochettino and there is growing expectation that the former Tottenham boss will take over at Old Trafford.
Pochettino has been out of work since he was fired by Spurs in November last year, but the Argentine remains highly qualified.
But Berbatov cautioned that Pochettino’s appointment might not change things at United, as there is a major problem between the players.
“If there’s truth to the Mauricio Pochettino rumors, it’s really hard to blame United,” the former Red Devils forward said. Betfair . “When the team plays badly, the responsibility stops with the boss, and this has always been true.
“I saw him recently as a guest commentator, and he said he’s ready to work again, so it’s hard to stop those rumors. The only thing that won’t change, though, is the players.
“A new boss will not change the way he plays. Yes, when you have a new coach you can see a rebound, but in general the attitude remains the same. No aggression, no passion, no accountability to each other.

“The players need to change their attitude as much as the coach needs to change.
“Many will say that now is the time to make the change, others will say not yet, but looking at this team now they will probably say that something is wrong.”
United have just two wins in their first six Premier League games this season and are 15th on the table.

They travel to Everton for Saturday’s lunchtime game in what Berbatov believes is a “must win” match for Solskjaer.
The Bulgarian added: “I have always been a fan of Ole and a fan of his, but if he continues like this, change is inevitable.
“I keep saying that United need a defender before a coach, a defender who is tactically aware.
“Everton on Saturday is now a great game for United, and I think if they lose this, it will probably be time for them to look for a new manager.
“They are 15th in the table, they could be lower depending on other results if they lose on Saturday, and that is not acceptable for a club like United. They must win for United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
“The crazy thing is that tactically he’s a good coach. I saw his first record of 100 games recently, and the numbers aren’t that bad.
“However, we are no longer in the 1980s. Coaches do not have four years like Fergie did to win a trophy and improve the team, success must come faster.”
