Winners and losers in Man Utd if Mauricio Pochettino is appointed manager

Manchester United contacted Mauricio Pochettino again about the possibility of replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the Old Trafford bench.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has been repeatedly linked to United’s position and, after a lackluster loss to Arsenal and a regrettable loss to Istanbul Basaksehir, Solskjaer is under pressure again.

Recent reports claim United have reached out to Pochettino’s representatives again, having done the same a month ago, but are unwilling to fire Solskjaer so early in the season.

However, if they make the call to fire the Norwegian and replace him with Pochettino, then the Argentine is sure to make some personnel changes.

Here, Mirror Sport takes a look at the winners and losers if United decides to bring in Pochettino.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino will reportedly be lined up to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

Winners

Luke shaw

His United career has been plagued with injuries, but with his worst fitness problems seemingly behind him, Pochettino’s appointment could have a huge impact on Shaw.

The defender broke into the England squad while Pochettino was in charge at Southampton and the Argentine’s track record when it comes to wing development means Shaw could take his game to another level under the 48-year-old’s guidance.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Pochettino could have a similar impact on Wan-Bissaka, who is already excellent defensively but needs to become an offensive threat.

The effectiveness of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose going forward was a hallmark of Pochettino’s Tottenham and could help Wan-Bissaka become a bigger attacking threat.

Dean henderson

Pochettino’s faith in young British talent was another hallmark of his time at Tottenham and Henderson could also benefit from his possible appointment.

David de Gea is currently ahead of him at United and Solskjaer has insisted that the Spaniard is the first choice, but would Pochettino see things differently?

Axel Tuanzebe

An excellent performance against PSG in the Champions League last month reminded everyone of Tuanzebe’s skill but, despite being injury-free, the defender has been starved for playing time with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof preferred.

Pochettino’s willingness to rely on youth could see Tuanzebe get a prolonged career in first-team soccer and that would only help the 22-year-old’s development.

Mason Greenwood

An extremely talented forward who has already proven he has what it takes at the highest level, scoring 17 goals in all competitions last season and breaking into England’s squad, Greenwood could also benefit from Pochettino’s influence.

He put his faith in a young Harry Kane while at Tottenham and helped him become one of the most consistent scorers in world football.

Losers

Nemanja Matic

At 32, Matic is nearing the end of his playing career and Pochettino’s tendency to favor the youth and his high-intensity pressure style means the Serbian is unlikely to play a major role at United should they change. coach.

Paul pogba

Pochettino’s man-driving skills and ability to bring out the best in players are well documented, but could he finally be the man to bring out the best in Pogba at Old Trafford?

With the Frenchman repeatedly expressing his desire to leave the club, the other options at his position and the fact that Pochettino has not been afraid to let great players go, Pogba may end up leaving United if the former Spurs boss joins.

Although that, of course, could be seen as a victory for the midfielder.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have missed Jadon Sancho in the summer, but he still made some big moves in the transfer market with Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani arriving.

But their start to the season has been mixed, with a loss at home to Crystal Palace and a 6-1 win by Spurs at one end of the scale, and a tremendous 2-1 win over PSG in Paris in the other.

The question now is whether they can find the right balance.

With Shaw’s strong pre-existing relationship with Pochettino, with the side once saying that his former boss “used to call me his son,” Telles would likely end up as a second choice.

That’s not what he was thinking when he moved from Porto in the summer window.
