Private lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s failure to comply with the Emile Short Commission’s recommendations on the violence that occurred in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections is his biggest accusation.
The lawyer believes that the implementation of some recommendations made in the Emile Short could address electoral violence in the country.
After violence characterized the Ayawaso-West-Wuogon by-elections on January 31, 2019, Akufo-Addo established the Emile Short Justice Commission to investigate the events and associated violence.
However, the Commission presented its report to Akufo-Addo on Thursday, March 14, 2019.
The government issued its White Paper on the report and rejected most of the parts.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day program on Thursday, November 5, Edudzi Tameklo said that “the president himself has tolerated, conspired and done everything possible to unleash violence.
“We were here when the party thugs were so encouraged to storm a court headed by a judge and released the men who were in custody.
“What happened to them? They found what was paid for by the nuclear power plant and the case ended. That is the level of official complicity.”
He added: “Our president has refused to act on the Ayawaso West Wuogon report. That is the biggest accusation against the president in history. The report said Double, who was cited for unleashing assaults, should be prosecuted. What happened to that? “
But reacting to claims from the legal mastermind, Dennis Aboagye, a member of the New Patriotic Party (PNP) Communications team, dismissed the claim and said the president acted appropriately in relation to the report.
In addition, he pointed out that there were several cases of electoral violence during the NDC mandate, but these cases were not addressed.
“Our people were brutalized in Akwatia by Baba Jamal, our people were beaten in Odododiodio in 2016 and what happened?
