Ghana is celebrated globally for the measures it has implemented in the fight against the coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19).
The country has been identified among the other five with the most innovative and effective plans in managing the pandemic.
This was confirmed by the Chairman of the Risk Communication and Social Mobilization Committee for the Ghana COVID-19 Response team, Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, who joined the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, to participate in a WHO Africa virtual meeting held by Webinar last Wednesday.
The WHO representative for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, addressed the meeting and was attended by African ministers of health or their representatives and key stakeholders.
Praise
According to Dr. Aboagye, Ghana was being celebrated globally due to measures such as the use of drones to deliver test samples at test centers and personal protective equipment (PPE) to health facilities.
Others included the closure of the borders and the mandatory quarantine of all travelers who arrived in the country within a certain period, strict compliance with preventive measures and the prohibition of social and public gatherings early enough to stop the rapid spread of the community said.
Furthermore, Ghana’s decision to impose restrictions on the movement and the directive to allow better follow-up of contacts were applauded, he added.

The United Kingdom led the number of WHO member countries that praised the Government of Ghana for its innovative ways of managing and fighting the new coronavirus that has infected more than 4,000 people in the country.
The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom Mission to the WTO, the UN and other international organizations, Julian Braithwaite, at the WHO virtual meeting, praised Ghana for using innovative methods to combat the pandemic and also easing restrictions on the movement of people.
He highlighted Ghana’s use of drones to deliver test samples and PPE, saying it showed how much the country had made progress in using the technology to combat the pandemic.
The impressed United Kingdom ambassador said: “With what we have heard today, several countries are taking their first steps to lift the closure measures and we have heard some very innovative examples of what the different countries are doing, taking the example of Ghana of using drones for deliveries. “
According to Dr. Aboagye, ECOWAS had also requested that Ghana’s response plan serve as an anchor for the subregion.
In addition, he said, Nigeria was also collaborating with Ghana in the first fight against the pandemic.
Case count skyrockets
Meanwhile, due to improved tracking and testing of contacts, the country has been able to identify cases and select them for management, one of the key factors in the fight against the pandemic.
Yesterday, Ghana’s case count hit the 4,012 mark.
The new figure was released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on its website 24 hours after reporting a case count of 3,091 last Thursday.
The new figure represents an increase of 921 cases over that of the last update.
In giving an update on the case count on its website, the GHS said: “More than 50 percent of these cases were due to an outbreak at an industrial facility with 1,300 workers, of which 533 have been confirmed as positive.” .
While the number of deaths remains at 18, recoveries have improved to 323, with 20 more recoveries, making active cases now 3,671.
