Real Madrid are reportedly considering signing Bayern Munich defender David Alaba for free next summer.
Alaba is in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena and without an agreement regarding his contract with Bayern, Madrid are planning a possible raid.
According to Diario AS, Alaba’s agent has started negotiations with the LaLiga giants and is hopeful of reaching a “pre-agreement” in January.
Alaba’s ability to play as center back, left back or in his preferred position in central midfield would make him a real asset to Zinedine Zidane’s team.
The Spanish club is confident of reaching an agreement with Alaba after criticizing Bayern for the way it has handled his contract.
Alaba, who helped Bayern win nine Bundesliga titles, six German Cups and two Champions League trophies, admitted that he found out that the club had withdrawn its new contract offer “on the news.”
Bayern president Herbert Hainer publicly announced that the club had withdrawn his five-year contract after the player’s agent rejected his latest offer.
Alaba said he learned about Bayern’s actions at the same time as everyone else and expressed disappointment that the club had not contacted him first.
“I heard it like everyone else on the news,” Alaba said at a press conference ahead of his match in Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday.
I cannot say how it will continue from this point. I am happy to play for Bayern and to be part of the team. But I can’t say what the future will be like after last night, as no one has officially spoken to me.
However, Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has stated that the European champions want Alaba, who has made 400 appearances for the club, to stay beyond the end of his current contract.
‘I do not know [if Alaba will leave]’he told Sport Bild. “We had a meeting two weeks ago with his father George and his advisor Pini Zahavi. The conversation was good, the atmosphere was good.
But I have to say, we’ve been hanging around for months. At some point we have to start planning the new season. We have to know: will David stay at Bayern or not? A decision is important to us right now. ‘
