The Ghana Election Commission (EC) has refuted the claims of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the printing of the ballot papers for the December 7 elections.

The largest opposition party had on Sunday raised concerns about the printing of the ballots, calling on the Commission to allow the Assembly Press, led by a known member of the New Patriotic Party, to be part of the companies that print the ballots. ballots.

The NDC also said that the Commission has not provided ballot statistics since it began printing the ballots, further accusing the elections administration body of printing more than 150,000 against the rule.

But a statement issued by the EC on Tuesday, November 3 asked the public to ignore the claims as false. “The Election Commission finds it difficult to understand why the NDC would seek to cause fear and apprehension around a transparent and open process such as ballot printing,” the Commission said.

“This is unacceptable.

“The Commission assures citizens that each ballot will be counted. A ballot will not be included in a package that has not been counted.

“This will not happen. Our processes are open, transparent and robust and will continue to be. “

He listed the printers as follows:

Buck Press Limited
Assembly Press (Ghana Publishing Company)
Acts Commercial Limited
Fonstat Limited
Yasarko Limited
Innolink
Limited checkpoint

In the special case of Assembly Press, the Commission said that it is a “state institution that at any time is headed by persons appointed by a sitting government.”

“It is also a well-known fact that the NDC Designated-led Assembly Press printed the 1992, 1996, 2000, 2012 and 2016 ballots.

“Regardless of who heads the Assembly Press, the effective monitoring and participation of the Political Parties and Security Agencies in the Commission’s printing processes makes it impossible for any printing company, whether state or private, to manipulate and compromise the printing process ”.

He urged the public to ignore NDC’s “attempt” to cause “fear and panic and increase tension in the run-up to the December 2020 elections.”
