Most Ghanaians have faith in the EC president – CDD-Ghana

A pre-election survey by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) indicates that EC Chief Jean Mensa and her team have strong support from Ghanaians despite constant criticism.

The poll, which was conducted between September and October this year, saw Ghanaians rate Madam Jean Mensa with 68% approval, with a paltry 24% strongly disapproving of her work as EC president.

The report suggests that voters believe they are in reliable hands when it comes to the conduct of the December 7 elections.

Methodology

All adult citizens had an equal chance of being selected for the 2020 pre-election poll.

A national representative sample of 2,400 adult citizens was randomly sampled and distributed among regions and urban-rural areas in proportion to their participation in the national adult population.

Face-to-face interviews were conducted in the respondent’s chosen language (standard English questionnaire translated into Twi, Ewe, Ga, Dagbani, and Dagaare).

A sample size of 2400 produces a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points with a 95% confidence level. Fieldwork (or data collection) was conducted for the 2020 pre-election survey.

Launched in 2016, the CDD-Ghana pre-election survey aims to select early warning signs by monitoring citizens’ opinion of the country’s overall level of preparation for elections; public confidence in the competence, integrity and neutrality of the election, the relevant status and
quasi-state bodies; and behavior, expectations, priorities, and possible voter participation.

The survey also helps to isolate and identify voter concerns regarding electoral security, physical intimidation, violence, and the perception of peace in the political environment.
