Brighton’s ace Maupay was kicked out of the team to face Tottenham due to concerns about his inflated ego

Brighton forward Neal Maupay was expelled from the team facing Tottenham due to concerns about his attitude.

The French forward, who is the Seagulls’ top scorer this season with four goals, did not travel with the squad to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Coach Graham Potter sidestepped the issue after the game by claiming that Maupay’s omission was for “tactical reasons”, despite the forward’s obvious influence on his team and the fact that he started the game against Tottenham without a recognized forward. Brighton lost the game 2-1.

Sportsmail understands that the decision was made in order to show Maupay that no player is more important than the team amid a growing sense that the former Brentford forward’s ego is being inflated.

Maupay has certainly been one of the club’s most impressive performers since his return to the top flight, but Potter was eager to send a message.

Sources also claim that Maupay was involved in a heated incident with a colleague last week, which contributed to Potter’s surprise decision.

Brighton will face Burnley on Friday and Potter will want to see a reaction from his star striker ahead of Sean Dyche’s team visit.
