Ghana signs cooperation agreement with RwandaGhana signs cooperation agreement with Rwanda

Ghana and Rwanda have signed a General Cooperation Agreement aimed at creating space for the establishment of a Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda, Dr. Vincent Biruta, in Accra on Monday, November 2, 2020.

Addressing event participants, Shirley Ayokor Botchwey highlighted the long-lasting and cordial relations that exist between Ghana and Rwanda.

According to her, “bilateral relations between the two countries reached an important milestone in January 2020 with the establishment of the High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda in Ghana and the appointment of Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira as the first Resident High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Ghana ”.

He added that Rwanda’s opening in Accra is commendable despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ghanaian Foreign Minister further called on the Ghanaian and Rwandan business communities to harness the vast economic potential of the two countries, and in this regard highlighted the conducive investment climate prevailing in Ghana as well as the incentive provided under the Ghana Investment Promotion Center Act. 2013, Law 865 and encourage the Government of Rwanda to urge its companies to invest in Ghana.

He mentioned that the establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Zone (AfCFTA) presents new opportunities for both countries to expand trade relations on a bilateral and continental level, while acknowledging Rwanda’s invaluable support in defending support for the successful candidacy. Ghana that culminated in the holding of the AfCFTA Secretariat in Accra.

On behalf of the Government of Ghana, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey expressed Ghana’s desire to work closely with Rwanda to consolidate existing relations as well as explore new areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
