Agyapa Agreement: Publish the findings on the corruption risk assessment – Minority to Special Prosecutor

The minority in parliament is demanding that the Special Prosecutor release his corruption risk assessment report on the Agyapa royalty deal.

They want this to happen even before President Akufo-Addo even considers referring the deal to the House.

President Akufo-Addo on Monday ordered the finance minister to return to parliament to reconsider the settlement in the transaction.

According to the Special Prosecutor, Martín Amidu, the process was already concluded on October 15 and had submitted its findings to the Ministry of the Presidency and Finance on October 16.

Some of the prioritized areas for scrutiny by President Akufo-Addo during the deal’s directed return to Parliament include allocations, relationships, and investments involved.

But talking to JoyNewsFormer Deputy Energy Minister John Jinapor explained that full disclosure of the content of the PASB assessment will inform the House of how best to approach the deal.

“We want to see that risk assessment [report], how it was done, what was included, the underlying assumptions and their conclusions. And why has the special prosecutor not published that document, “he said.

The member of Parliament’s Finance Committee further asserted that there is no guarantee that the minority will participate in the reconsideration after they left the House the night approval was given in August.

“We are not interested in a strike. We are interested in safeguarding the assets of the nation. We are interested in doing the right thing and the right thing.

“Our duty as a minority is to represent the people of Ghana and do what is right and appropriate. Let me assure the people of Ghana that the minority party led by Haruna Iddrisu will do justice to this and that we will serve the interests of the country. “

Mr. Jinapor, however, explained that they have not yet been contacted regarding said session to review the agreement with Agyapa Mineral Royalties Limited.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will help the country raise around $ 1 billion to finance infrastructure projects.
