Ghana’s electoral management body, the Electoral Commission, will begin printing the final biometric voter register from Wednesday 4 November.
The development comes with almost a month to go before the general elections to be held on December 7, 2020.
According to the vice president in charge of EC operations, Samuel Tettey told the Daily Graphic that the commission plans to make electronic copies of the register for all registered political parties.
Although the commission had initially planned to start printing from November 8, 2020, Samuel Tettey said: “We are ready to start printing well before this date.”
For the various regions that will in turn receive printed copies of the final record, the vice president of operations explained that theirs will be done simultaneously.
“As we finish printing by region, we will begin to distribute,” added Samuel Tettey.
Meanwhile, the commission had intended to take three weeks to print the provisional voter record, but had to change it to seven days.
The EC’s rationale behind the change was that it purchased two additional Xerox printers to speed up the printing process.
Samuel Tettey assured that all registered political parties will be given printed copies of the final registration along with those of the regions that have theirs within 10 days of the start of printing.
