Former Navrongo Central Member of Parliament and Interior Minister Mark Owen Woyongo has blamed his defeat in 2016 on poor surveillance by polling stations that give space for the then-opposition New Patriotic Party (PNP) to manipulate.
According to him, if the NDC devoted time and resources to being alert on Election Day, it would not have lost to Joseph Kofi Adda, who is the current Minister of Aviation.
For him, the results were manipulated in some parts of the constituency. Therefore, he asked the PNP to put an end to this “little diplomatic attitude”.
“For the party to win this year’s elections, both in the presidency and in most parliamentary seats, party supporters must waste their time and money and pay attention to door-to-door campaigns.”
Mark Woyongo indicated that the era of using polling station officers who cannot read and write and also challenge the status quo is over and there is a need for the party to invest in such resources to ensure that they are not misled in elections imminent.
He said: “We cannot win this year’s elections if we simply trust people who cannot read or write at the station as polling station agents. Those days are over; that caused my parliamentary defeat to my opponent (Joseph Kofi Adda). We should push some of the strategies forward using teachers, retired appointees and “men with structures” as polling station agents. That and only that can help us win power in the December 7 elections, “he said.
Woyongo spoke at a ceremony to announce the defection of former PNC parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga central constituency Thomas Akurugu covered by MyNewsGh.com.
