Gareth Bale is a Tottenham Hotspur striker and a hero, once again.

Seven and a half years after scoring his (no longer) last goal for Tottenham, Bale added a poignant first chapter in the history of his return to White Hart Lane on Sunday. With his late and winning goal, Gareth Bale not only gave Spurs all three points from a tough affair with Brighton & Hove Albion, but also propelled them to second place in the Premier League table.
With Bale still returning to first-team action as he regains form and sharpness, the 31-year-old again fell out of the starting lineup and came off the bench late in the second half. While some viewers will question José Mourinho’s strategy regarding Bale’s arrival, Bale himself says that he has no problem playing any role, at any time, because that’s what “a team player” does – quotes from the BBC:
“It’s a great feeling. He just wants to come and do some work for the team. I worked for the team and I was lucky to get the goal. It was obviously a great play by Sergio Reguilón and I was in the right place at the right time. It’s nice to get off the mark.
“Everyone always talks about individuals, but I have always said that I am a team player, that I would be happy to be able to do a job, even if it is to defend. The most important thing is the collective.
“We are growing in every game. Even if we make mistakes, we learn from them and we can only use that as a positive. I have not played much football. I had a little problem with my knee so it’s taking me a bit. I’m working hard in training and when I have opportunities ”.
In the context of the PL title race, Bale believes the Spurs can be “very competitive”, although he is not yet ready to tag secondary or favorites contenders just yet …

For Tottenham, being competitive in the context of who ends the season as Premier League champion is all they can realistically ask for – to be the team with the chance of a lifetime if, or when, something extremely strange happens among the favorites. .
Will it happen? The extent to which is unknown, although “something strange” is always likely to happen. Can they capitalize? *Shrug* The jury is still out, very deliberate, until the end.
