It was perhaps the calmest spoken phrase to make headlines around the world, but Karim Benzema’s alleged criticism of Vinicius in Germany in the middle of the week has already been forgotten. The two players are now at peace with each other.
Benzema was seen speaking quietly to Ferland Mendy at Monchengladbach, apparently telling him not to pass the Brazilian as it was as if he was playing against them, which were surprisingly harsh words.
However, the issue was quickly resolved and the pair were photographed together in training on Friday with the ax deep in the ground. This was most evident in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Huesca, where Real Madrid’s team spirit came to a halt.
“It is clear that the most important thing is that the players have spoken to each other and nothing has happened, there are always things that are said on the field and they must stay there,” explained Zinedine Zidane.
“I honestly believe that these things happen many times on the field, but they are so small, it is natural in a game situation. The important thing is that it is not built, that the players can talk to each other and that everything has been forgotten.
Vinicius was not a starter against Huesca, but he arrived on the pitch in the 60th minute of the game and it only took two minutes to show that Benzema’s words did not overwhelm him.
He ran to the ball and delivered a perfect pass to the Frenchman inside the penalty area. It could have been an assist for the former Flamengo prodigy, but Benzema couldn’t finish off the occasion.
They reconnected 10 minutes later when Benzema passed a pass to Vinicius, who then sought to return the favor with a pass to the area, but the execution was poor.
When Benzema scored a header in injury time to complete the score, Vinicius was one of the first to congratulate him and it seems as if the problems of the trip to Germany are in the past.
