For the family of Isabel dos Santos, the richest woman in Africa, this is a time of extreme pain. She has lost her husband of 48 years, Sindika Dokolo, in a diving accident.
Dokolo, a popular businessman from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was, until his death in Dubai on Thursday, October 29, an art collector.
Legit.ng understands that the incident was confirmed by different members of the family as reported by various media outlets, including The African Report.
The report described Dakolo as:
“Dokolo, a cultured dandy and astute businessman, was also a keen observer of the regional political scene. He was 48 years old.”
The late Dakolo married dos Santos, who is the daughter of former Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos in 2002.
Who is Dakolo?
Dokolo, a very ambitious man, had a businessman father, Augustin Dokolo Sanu.
In fact, it was reported that he had inherited a fortune after his father’s death in 2001.
It is remembered that his father built a business empire considered one of the largest in Zaire under the rule of the late Mobutu Sese Seko.
One of his businesses was the Bank of Kinshasa.
Dakolo, as the son of a wealthy man, grew up partly in Europe. As he grew older, he became an entrepreneur entering various sectors of the economy with De Santos.
Part of his business interests included oil, diamonds, retail, cement, and telecommunications. He was also dedicated to the art collection and also participated in the clamor for the repatriation of works of art looted from African museums.
Dakolo later turned to politics and is said to have financed some of the opposition elements in the twilight of the Joseph Kabila era.
Isabel dos Santos was reported to have once hinted that she would run for the Angolan presidency.
Speaking to the BBC, Isabel on four different occasions refused to rule out the possibility that she could run for the highest political office in the country.
It should be noted that his father, José Eduardo dos Santos, was president of Angola for 38 years.
Additionally, prosecutors are seeking to recover $ 1 billion that Isabel and her associates are said to owe the country.
