President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has rescinded the appointment of Adjenim Boateng Adjei as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) with immediate effect.
The termination of the appointment of Adjenim Boateng Adjei comes after a report from the Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to President Akufo-Addo uncovered a conflict of interest against Mr. Adjei.
The termination of Adjei’s appointment was contained in a letter from the presidency dated Friday, October 30, 2020.
An investigative article titled ‘Sales Contracts’ by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni revealed some contracts authorized by the Authority to a company allegedly owned by the head of the PPA.
This led to Mr. Adjei’s suspension after the Office of the Special Prosecutor and CHRAJ were tasked with investigating the matter.
The findings of CHRAJ Commissioner Joseph Whittal concluded: “On the totality of the evidence, Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei had placed himself in a position where his personal interests were in conflict with the performance of his duties as Director General and Member of the Board of the PPA “.
“Having satisfied the fact that the recommendation made by CHRAJ is duly motivated and well founded, the President has expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Joseph Whittal and CHRAJ for the thorough and methodical manner in which the matter has been addressed,” Parties The statement signed by the Director of Communications for the president’s office, Eugene Arhin, reads.
The termination of Adjenim Adjei’s appointment means that he does not qualify for any public office for the next five years.
The Manasseh documentary revealed that Adjenim Boateng’s co-owner company sold the government contracts it won through restrictive, single-source tenders to the highest bidder.
