The Women’s Football Show: Can Manchester City Make FA Cup History? | Football news

Manchester City and England defender Esme Morgan hopes to make history this weekend by winning two FA Cups in the same season.

The extraordinary circumstances came after the coronavirus delayed the 2019-20 competition, meaning it will be played in the 2020-21 campaign.

Players can generally play for a single team in a single FA Cup, but the eligibility rules have been changed due to the unusual situation.

“It’s a bit of a crazy situation, but emotion is the predominant emotion,” Morgan said in Friday’s edition of The women’s soccer show.

“We are very excited to be able to make history and hopefully win two FA Cups in one season, which has probably never been done before and will never be done again.”

Morgan will also be in the strange position of facing Everton at Wembley on Sunday, the team he played for on loan last season.

Indeed, it has been a whirlwind 12 months for the player who returned to Gareth Taylor’s City this season and recently received her first call-up from England.

“It’s been crazy, everything has happened so fast and I’ve been very lucky with all the opportunities,” Morgan added.

“Spending time at Everton and gaining so much experience, and then landing an England Senior Call-up was just a dream come true.

“It has been absolutely crazy and so lucky to be able to have the 12 months that I have had.”

Taylor hopes the women’s FA Cup can trigger a wave of trophies from Man City

Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor wants Sunday’s FA Cup final to be the launching pad for a wave of trophies during his reign at the club.

Taylor will lead City at Wembley against Everton aiming for his first piece of silver, just a few months in the position.

The former Wales international took over the role in the summer and already has a taste of Wembley, when City were beaten by Chelsea at the Community Shield.

He hopes that his second visit to the national stadium can start a glorious spell.

“It would mean everything, I feel very lucky, I haven’t even reached double figures in games for the club and two of those games will be at Wembley Stadium,” Taylor said.

“I am enormously grateful for that opportunity, it is something you want to get used to being in the cup finals, it is something that is the goal for us.
