The Black Stars coach is full of praise for Greuther Furth’s teenager who has been called up for international duty with Ghana for the first time
Ghana’s coach CK Akonnor described German-born Greuther Furth forward Jamie Leweling as a “future star” after calling up the teenager for the upcoming 2022 Africa Cup of Nations double qualifying match against Sudan in November.
The winger was arguably the biggest surprise in the 23-player Black Stars squad announced on Friday.
He currently plays for Germany at the U-20 level, but his Ghanaian roots make him eligible to represent the four-time African champions at the international level.

“As we speak now, I have spoken with him but have not assured him [of a permanent Ghana place]. I went to Germany to see it because it was also recommended by our technical director [Bernhard Lippert].

Leweling broke into Gruether Furth’s first team last season, where he made 22 league appearances with seven starts for the club in the German second division.
This term, he has played five times so far, starting in just one of the games.
His last appearance for Germany was with the U-20s in September, where he scored in a 2-1 victory over Denmark.
